I’m moving soon so I’ll get it then

I am originally from the Philadelphia area, so I love talking to people from back home. I guess that’s why it irks me when they drag their feet in the process of getting them protected.

Deborah from Pennsylvania called me because of her recent seizure. “Randy, I’m 60, I live alone, and last month I had a seizure that put me in a coma for 29 days,” she said. I asked the obvious question of whether her doctors knew what caused the seizure in the hope that it wouldn’t happen again. She told me she was taking medication but sadly all of the testing was not providing any answers as to what caused her seizure. Fortunately, when it happened, she was with her cousin who was able to call an ambulance and get Deborah to the hospital.

“Deborah, what would happen if you had a seizure while by yourself?” I asked. “Well, I don’t know. I guess I’d be on the floor until someone found me,” she answered. I told her that I didn’t want that to happen, her family didn’t want that to happen, and she certainly didn’t want that to happen. Deborah agreed, and then told me that because she was afraid of something happening, she was going to be moving in with her granddaughter in the next few weeks. Once she was there, she would get protected. “Why would you consider leaving yourself vulnerable heaven forbid another seizure happens before you move?” I asked. “The Life Alert system is portable, so you can get it now and when it’s time to move, take it with you.”

“I’ll consider that,” Deborah said.

I hope to hear from her soon. But sadly, I know people, and I won’t hold my breath.
